The Facebook SDK has a powerful event tracking feature which automatically tracks certain user activities, such as app installs, launches and in-app-subscription activations. In this short how-to guide, we’ll show you how to enable it in your app.
Before continuing, it’s important to note that iOS users who do not allow tracking across apps on both your app as well as Meta’s Facebook app will not have their events logged.
It is time to go back to your app’s dashboard on Facebook for Developers website and set up automatic event tracking by adding the App Events product to your Facebook app.
Adding it will start the quick setup process, offering you to choose which platform you’d like to set up first. We can start with iOS. You can click the next button for the first step and on step two you will have to enter the bundle ID of your app. You can find this (and all other information for the rest of this setup) on the “App Info” section in the “Settings” sidebar tab on the Builder:
After entering the “iPhone bundle ID” from the Builder into the quick setup input you can click next:
With that, you’ve set up the iOS app. Now onto Android by selecting the Android tab at the top of the steps. For Android, we can click Next until step 4 where we enter the “Android package name” from the Builder into the “Package name” input, and the “Android class name” from the Builder into the “Default Activity Class Name” input:
After saving these with the Save button, we can continue to step 5 where we enter the “Android key hash” from the Builder into the “Key Hashes” input and save that as well. With this, our Facebook App setup is complete, there’s only one step left, which is enabling this on the Builder. We do this by going to Settings -> Users (Under Extension settings) -> General and switching on “Enable Facebook automatic event tracking”.
Once your app is published on the App Store and Play Store, or updated with these changes, you’ll be able to monitor user activity on Facebooks Event Manager.
